Based on an R5 Alpine body, modified by the Heuliez coachbuilders, the Renault 5 Turbo was presented as a ‘concept-car’ at the Salon de l‘Automobile de Paris 1978 car show. Group 4 approved on 1 September 1980, the prototype‘s first trial took place a few months earlier at the Giro d‘Italia. A hugely popular sporty hatchback that captured many imaginations!
