The Toyota Soarer made its debut in February 1981 as Toyota’s first personal luxury car, and wowed drivers with its long nose, short deck form, an advanced inline-six engine and top of the line electronics. In June of that year the Soarer line-up was joined by the VR-Turbo grade, which utilized a two-liter inline-six SOHC turbo engine, a four-speed automatic transmission, plus four-wheel independent suspension with front strut and rear semi-trailing setups. Inside the cabin, the eye was drawn to its digital meter with a special indicator to show turbo efficiency, while luxury was guaranteed by features like the genuine leather steering wheel.
